STUNNING PERFORMANCE PUTS PUNJAB TITLE BID BACK ON TRACK

Team news saw Garinder Birk, Gary Wilson, Victor Carvalho and Chris Bright all ruled out due to illness.
The starting line up saw Duncan Homer and Michael Logue come in for Bruce Calder and Chris Bright
Punjab produced a stunning performance of wonderful football combined with excellent movement to get there title bid back on track by beating Burton United 4-1.
Punjab started the game very well when Michael Logue hammered home the first from a free kick inside the first minute after the keeper handled a back pass for 1-0.

Andrew Cox then scored a free kick from fully 40yards that evaded everyone and nestled in the net for 2-0 inside the first 5 minutes.
The home side scored from a corner to make it 2-1
Jaspal Saini then delivered a perfect corner for Hassan Mumin to net his 11th of the season with a perfect header for 3-1.

Punjab missed numerous chances to extend there lead before the break but were well worth the lead at the break.
The second half saw HassanMumin hit the post have one hooked off the line and many other chances go begging before Julian Millington knocked home the fourth to put the seal on a great performance for 4-1.

PUNJAB LOOKING TO BOUNCE BACK

Punjab United enjoyed a 14 man training session earlier today in preparation for the weekend game versus Burton United.

Lads enjoyed a light warm up together with shooting practice and a 45 minute game.

Punjab will look to bounce back after a 6-3 reverse versus Gretton but a game the boys will relish more than any other.

Manager Amrit added "These lads understand whats at stake and have the hunger to win".

Team news sees Michael Logue , Gary Wilson and Duncan Homer all return to the squad.

TRAINING UPDATE AND XMAS WISH

Training Update
Punjab United will train on Thursday 27th December at Weekley Glebe Fields.
Training will start for 12pm until 2pm.

QUICKFIRE GRETTON PUT PUNJAB TO THE SWORD

Gretton shocked Punjab with two goals in the first 5 minutes of the game to set up a platform for a great win.

This after Punjab missed a great chance inside 40 seconds when Hassan Mumin had a good effort saved by the keepers legs.

Gretton went up and converted two corners with goals by former Punjab frontman Dave Harding and Lee Wildman for 0-2.
Punjab pulled one back with Warren Barry slamming one home after some good work by Ahmet Huseyin for 1-2 this being this 3rd goal in the last 3 games.
Gretton via the impressive Aaron Maclindon scored the 3rd from a good counter attack for 1-3.
Lee Wildman got a second before Julian Millington made it 2-4 before Chilton made it 2-5 with a long ranger.

Hassan Mumin scored a good goal after his initially chip was saved he followed up with a very composed volley for 3-5 before Aaron Macilindon scored again with Punjab pushing to get back into the game.
Although a bad day at the office Punjab created plenty of chances but were done by some excellent movement and Gretton fully deserved there victory.

LATE GOAL DENIES PUNJAB 3 POINTS

Punjab line up that won 2-0 versus Islip saw 3 changes to the side with Jaspal Saini, Michael Logue and Victor Carvalho making way for Bruce Calder, Duncan Homer and Julian Millington.

Punjab came away from Wilbarston with just the one point after the home side pounced late on to deny them.
All started well when Warren Barry on his return to his old stamping ground crashed home a 20yard effort that went in off the foot of the post to send the visitors 1-0 at the break.

Punjab played well in patches but could not add a second which cost them dear in the end when the home side produced some neat football before a nice finish to level the game at 1-1.

With so many games ending in draws it was a great opportunity missed to close the gap at the top.

TEAM NEWS FOR VISIT TO WILBARSTON

Although the corresponding fixture was a convincing win Wilbarston will be a totally different outfit with many new faces added to there squad which has seen them pick up 7 points out of the last 12 available.
Punjab enjoyed a 16 man training session in -5 conditions for what promises to be a tight encounter.
Team news for this fixture sees Defenders Garinder Birk, Govinder Shergill and Stewart Hetherington all missing.
Better news saw the return of winger Gary Wilson in training who could well be included in the squad.

Squad:- Bhandal, Homer, Hetherington, Park, Wilson, Cox, Mumin, Barry, Bright, Millington, Huseyin, Saini, Logue, Carvalho, Calder, Kumar, Ofoshene.

Players from Kettering area to meet at Beeswing Public House at 12:15-12:30pm. Corby players to meet at Wilbarston 1pm.

PUNJAB XMAS NIGHT OUT

Punjab United Players and officials will have there annual xmas night out on Saturday 15th December 2007 in Northampton Town Centre.

All are requested to meet at THE MOON & SQUARE PUB next to Chicago Rock at 8pm.

Bring along friends...The more the merrier!!!!

No further plans are made so it's where the night takes you.....

The possibility of staying at The Travellodge by Sixfields is also available to those who don't fancy travelling home that night...so book now to avoid disappointment £50 a room sleeps 4.

10 MAN PUNJAB RECORD VITAL WIN

Punjab line up showed two changes to the side that won in the county cup the previous week.
Gary Park and Warren Barry came in for Garinder Birk and Julian Millington.
With so many games falling foul to the weather punjab made good ground on the rest with a 2-0 victory in terrible conditions to put themselves firmly in the promotion mix.
This despite playing the last 35 minutes of the game with 10 men.
The first half was very evenly balanced with both sides creating a couple of good opportunities.

In the second half Punjab came to life when Warren Barry carried the ball and placed a neat effort under the keeper for a deserved 1-0 lead.
Punjab were reduced to 10 men when striker Hassan Mumin was booked for dissent and after walking off the pitch he was yellow carded again for leaving without permission.

The visitors put Punjab under pressure but the side superbly marshalled at the back by Jazz Saini withstood what the visitors had to throw at them.
On the break Punjab made it 2-0 when top marksman Andrew Cox lobbed home from 20yards to give Punjab a well deserved 2-0 win.

Andrew Cox also missed an open goal as the visitors were opened up on numerous occasions in the final 15 minutes.

TEAM NEWS FOR VISIT OF ISLIP UNITED

Punjab are looking to bounce back after there last league game which was a unfortunate defeat.
Team news is mixed with a number of absentees from the squad.
Garinder Birk (ill), Govinder Shergill (leg), Stewart Hetherington (knock), Gary Wilson (unavailable), Claudio Pitra (hamstring) all missing out with Bruce Calder to have a late fitness test to determine his availability.
New signing Bethel Ofoshene is added to the squad.

Pushing for a start is Winger Warren Barry who made an appearance last weekend in the County Cup win.
Manager Amrit added we need to get back to winning ways and this will be a tough assignment this week but the boys will look forward to it.

TRAINING TIME CHANGE

As of Thursday 6th December 2007 Punjab training time will change to 8pm till 9pm at CTC on the astro turf.All players are requested to arrive at 7:45pm to have a warm up before going onto the pitch for ball work and practice match at 8pm.

KEEPER DECIDES ON NEW CHALLENGE

Punjab goalkeeper Amaarpreet Singh has decided to leave the club and play elsewhere.

Amaarpreet gained the first choice jersey at the beginning of the season from Bobby Bhandal and played 13 consecutive games.
He joined the club at 15 years old and finally established himself in the first team this season.

From all Punjab we would like to wish him all the best and thank him for his time and efforts for the club.

COXY LEADS THE WAY AS PUNJAB CRUISE INTO ROUND 4.

Punjab line up showed 3 changes to the side that lost to Wollaston.
Bobby Bhandal, Garinder Birk and Michael Logue came in for Amaarpreet Singh, Stewart Hetherington and Gary Park.

Punjab enjoyed a comfortable passage into round 4 with an 8-4 win.
Victor Carvalho got the ball rolling when his corner evaded everyone and hit the net for 1-0.
Skipper Paul Hetherington made it 2-0 when he headed home an Andrew Cox corner for 2-0.
Kingscliffe pulled one back for 2-1 after a slight mix up.
A long range effort from Garinder Birk was too hot for the keeper and as it dropped Andrew Cox knocked it over the line to send Punjab in 3-1 up at the break.

In the second half Andrew Cox made it 4-1 with a neat finish.
Victor Carvalho smashed home a shot from the edge of the box for 5-1.
Hassan Mumin finally ended his goal drought with a great lob for 6-1.

Punjab then introduced Full Back Govinder Shergill for Skipper Paul Hetherington.
The visitors then got two quick fire goals to make it 6-3.
Punjab then introduced Winger Warren Barry on his return from injury to replace Victor Carvalho.
Andrew Cox went through for his hat trick with a clinical lob for 7-3.
The visitors pulled another back for 7-4.
The final sub Duncan Homer arrived replacing Chris Bright and instantly making an impression with his first touch feeding Andrew Cox to hit his fourth and his 20th of the season to make it 8-4.
