TWELVE STEPS TO THE TITLE

In landing the championship Punjab United produced an astonishing run of results starting way back in January 2007 that secured the League Title.

Title Winning Punjab United FC
1) Daventry Drayton Grange - (Home) W6-2 (January 06th 2007)
The first step was taken with a impressive 6-2 win with Michael Chong on his debut and Andrew Cox scoring two a piece with Julian Millington and a great curling effort from Chris Bright making the six.
2) Weavers Old Boys - (Away) W3-2 (February 3rd 2007)
Punjab produced a professional performance against a stubborn Weavers side to go in 3-0 at the break with Andrew Cox hitting a brace and a Gary Wilson header before a late double by the visitors but the Punjab rearguard stood firm to grab the points.
Claudio Pitra made his first start since December 06 to play a starring role.
3) Great Doddington - (Away) W3-1 (February 24th 2007)
A solid performance on a awful pitch with a hill. With the game tied at 0-0 at the break Punjab came out to go 1-0 up via Gary Wilson before the home side scored a dubious penalty. Michael Chong put Punjab 2-1 up.
Andrew Cox hit the 3rd which was a landmark strike his 20th of the season.
4) Wellingborough Old Grammarians -(Home) W5-1 (March 3rd 2007)
A really solid performance with several players rested for the semi final the back up players staked a claim with a good performance.
Hassan Mumin scored an overhead kick for 1-0 Michael Chong made it 2-0 before the visitors got one back. But Substitutes Victor Carvalho and Michael Crawford scored one a piece and Andrew Cox netted to see the game out.
5) Cold Ashby Rovers - (Home) W2-0 (March 17th 2007)
With Dainite so far ahead in the league this was the game that everyone thought would decide who goes up in second:-
The game was a tight affair that opened up when a stunning Michael Chong volley from 25 yards found the top corner for 1-0. Andrew Cox added the second from some delightful football.
The second half saw some excellent team defending to see 3 valuable points bagged.
6) Daventry Drayton Grange - (Away) W3-2 (March 24th 2007)
A tricky fixtures but "if you win and not play well it's a sign of Champions" they say... This was the game breathtaking football in the opening 20 minutes and 3 goals in the first 8 minutes courtesy of a Michael Chong double and a Hassan Mumin header but then Punjab switched off to conceded 2 late goals but still winners 3-2.
The will to win was shown in the changing rooms when so many dejected players could not believe we played badly.
7) Cold Ashby Rovers - (Away) W4-2 (March 31st March 2007)
The big game with Dainite losing 3 in a row Punjab sensed that a crack at the title could be on.
The players were told to show they can be contenders..
Punjab started brightly when Duncan Homer scored direct from a corner before Michael Chong converted a great ball from Skipper Paul Hetherington for 2-0. Skipper shot was spilled by the keeper for Andrew Cox to make it 3-0 before 2 goals at the end of the first half by Cold Ashby made it a tough second half.
The home side produced relentless pressure before Hassan Mumin and Andrew Cox combined for Andrew Cox to hammer home the fourth and put Punjab in pursuit of the championship.
8) Ristee Towers - (Away) W1-0 (7th April 2007)
With the Gaffer going back to his old club the players produced a stubborn and solid performance to grab 3 vital points.
Some good football gave Michael Chong the chance to stoop home a header for the only goal of the game.
Man Of The Match Bobby Bhandal produced 3 wonderful saves to secure 3 priceless points for win number 8.
9) Corby Danesholme Vikings - (Away) W6-2 (14th April 2007)
Punjab showed there was no cup final hangover to destroy a good Corby Danesholme side 6-2.

10) CSV United - (Home) W13-0 (21st April 2007)
Punjab showed a ruthless streak of finishing to hammer CSV with 13 goals.
Andrew Cox lead the way with 8 goals with Michael Chong bagging his second hat trick in a week with Skipper Paul Hetherington scoring from the spot and Gary Wilson nailing home the 13th.
This result meant Punjab had at the least guaranteed promotion to Division 2.
11) West Haddon - (Home) W4-0 (28th April 2007)
Punjab played against a well organised West Haddon side to come in at the break level.
The home side made the breakthrough when Claudio Pitra smashed home the opener from a Jazz Saini corner.
Jazz made it 2-0 with a neat finish before Claudio Pitra finished off a smart 6 man move for 3-0 before Gary Wilson finished off the job with a good individual strike.
12) Wilby - (Home) W7-0 (5th may 2007)
The last game of the season scenario was simple Punjab Win would guarantee the League Title anything else would mean runners up.
With an opening 30 minutes deadlocked Punjab made the breakthrough when Hassan Mumin met a Michael Chong cross to score with a powerful header for 1-0.
Claudio Pitra scored the second with a powerful header from a Jazz Saini corner for 2-0.
Jazz Saini scored a free kick for 3-0 from the edge of the box.
The second half saw Jazz Saini score two more for his hat trick with Skipper Paul Hetherington scoring a penalty and Andrew Cox scoring his 35th Goal of the season.
