PUNJAB NET 5 TO PROGRESS INTO NEXT ROUND

Punjab line up showed 4 changes from the team that drew 2-2 the previous weekend.

Centre Half Jazz Saini and Striker Julian Millington were unavailable and Warren Barry (jaw) and Micheal Logue (ankle) were all missing.

In came top goalscorer Andrew Cox, Wingers Victor Carvalho and Gary Wilson and Defender Bruce Calder was given his debut.

Punjab moved into round 3 of the NFA Cup with a comfortable win versus Northampton Far Cotton Loco's.

Man of the Match Hassan Mumin got the ball rolling with a brilliant side footed effort that went in of the post for 1-0 from the edge of the box.

The visitors equalised from the spot for 1-1.

Punjab moved in front again when Chris Bright netted after good approach play for 2-1.

The visitors equalised again after a free kick went through the keeper for 2-2.

Punjab roared out in the second half to demolish the visitors with Andrew Cox cooling kneeing in the 3rd after Hassan Mumin's effort had come off the crossbar for 3-2, being his 10th of the season.

Hassan Mumin then got his 2nd of the game after a neat finish for 4-2.

Skipper Paul Hetherington then stepped up to smash home the 5th from the penalty spot after Hassan was bought down for 5-2.

TEAM NEWS FOR COUNTY CUP GAME

Punjab will host Northampton Far Cotton Loco's in Round 2 of the County Cup this Saturday.
This cup holds some good memories after some great results in this competition last year so we shall be hoping to build on last year.

Team news is mixed again with Jaspal Saini (Knee) and Michael Logue(ankle) joining Bobby Bhandal,Ross Mcvey and Roland Caka on the sideline.

Better news sees the return of Top goalscorer Andrew Cox and winger Victor Carvalho who both missed the 2-2 draw away to Rushden Corner Flag last week.

Winger Gary Wilson will have a late fitness test to see how his ankle is.

Punjab were denied the opportunity to climb to the top of the table by a gutsy Rushden Corner Flag outfit.
Punjab took the lead inside 12 minutes when skipper Paul Hetherington despatched a penalty for 1-0.

The home side levelled when a long free kick was knocked down for a simple tap in for 1-1.

Punjab then took the lead when Warren Barry smashed home a brilliant 25 yard effort for 2-1

The home side were reduced to 10 men and somehow equalized from a freak long range free kick for 2-2.
Punjab created numerous chances but couldn't find the winner although Duncan Homer on his return to the team produced a brilliant defence splitting ball that striker Hassan Mumin just flicked over the bar.

Duo Julian Millington and Michael Logue came through a full training session and were declared fit for this game alongside Bruce Calder.
Missing from the squad sees Duncan Homer, Bobby Bhandal, Garinder Birk, Gary Wilson, Andrew Cox, Roland Caka, Ross Mcvey all sit out this one with new signing Sandeep Kumar injuring his groin in training also joining the rest on the sideline.

LATE FREE KICK DENIES PUNJAB 3 POINTS

Punjab and Clipston produced a quality game and showed why both teams are in the top four.

Both sides produced good early football and both sides had one good chance in the first half with Warren Barry curling a free kick over the wall that struck the foot of the left hand post.

Right at the end of the first half Clipston had a strike at goal that was going top corner that Amarpreet Singh did well to keep out with an acrobatic save.

Punjab came out in the second half and produced some more good football but the Clipston rearguard again showed why the haven't conceded many.

Punjab introduced striker Hassan Mumin for Gary Wilson and he was making an immediate impact by running himself all over the place and winning alot aerially.
Punjab then produced a flowing move involving Warren Barry, Ahmet Huseyin, Harry Bajwa who in turn played Andrew Cox in whose brilliant cross was met at the far post by Hassan Mumin who powered home a brilliant header to make it 1-0.

Clipston hit back when there striker had a header that was going bottom corner but Amarpreet Singh produced another wonderful save that he clawed out when it seemed destined for the bottom right corner.

Punjab could and should have put the game to bed with Hassan Mumin going clear through but somehow putting the chance wide of the left post.

Clipston then denied Punjab in the last couple of minutes when the referee harshly adjudged Jazza for a header.

Up stepped Nick Barron for Clipston who curled a great free kick over the wall into the top right hand corner to snatch a point for the visitors.

All in all a fair result. With the game played in good spirit by both teams.

Punjab picked up three valuable points in an average game that really came to life in the second half.
Punjab took an early lead from Warren Barry when he took the ball down cut outside of the man and lashed home a brilliant right footed effort into the bottom right corner to give them a half time lead.

Both sides missed chances before full back Ahmet Huseyin got down the right flank and put over a great cross that sub Victor Carvalho headed down and striker Andrew Cox slid in and knocked the ball into the roof of the net for 2-0 Warren Barry then beat three men down the left and pulled the ball across the box for Andrew Cox to tap in for 3-0.The home side got two goals back but Punjab left with 3 points going into the clash next week at home to Clipston.

Punjab have some mixed news for the visit to Weedon F.C. this Saturday.
The 21 man squad trained very hard for a good game versus Weedon this saturday.
Punjab injury list has extended this week with Michael Logue (ankle), Julian Millington (knee) out for this game.

During training Defender Bruce Calder took a heavy knock to his foot which has effectively ruled him out of this fixture. With goalkeeper Bobby Bhandal also missing out this weekend (unavailable)
However Midfielder Warren Barry returns to the squad after missing the win last weekend.
